DNP Printer Setup and Troubleshooting

A DNP printer takes thousands of prints without complaining, and when it stops it is almost always one of about ten things. This is the guide we send our own customers: first the DNP printer setup, from the box to the first print, then the DNP printer troubleshooting list, ordered by how often each fault turns out to be the answer, which is not the order people try them in. If you have an event in an hour, jump straight to the seven faults. Everything here applies to the three models we sell, the DS-RX1HS, the DS620 and the QW410, and most of it applies to any dye sublimation printer.

What You Need for a DNP Printer Setup, or Any Photo Booth Printer Setup

The list is short: the printer, a media kit, a USB cable and a computer. There is no network port and no card slot, so the computer is not optional.

The printer. It arrives with the print catcher tray, the power supply and the roll flanges. Keep the box: it is the only fitted case you will ever get for it, and it is exactly what you will miss the day you send the unit for service.

The media. Paper and ribbon are sold together and are model specific. The DS-RX1HS kit gives up to 1,400 prints of 10x15 cm, the DS620 box up to 800 and the QW410 box up to 300. They are not interchangeable between models.

The cable. The DNP printer USB cable is a plain USB 2.0 A to B, the square connector. Use the shortest one that reaches. Long unpowered extensions are behind half the calls about a printer that vanishes in the middle of an event.

The computer. Windows or macOS. The job always leaves from the computer, never from a phone or straight out of the camera. A clean DNP printer installation takes ten minutes.

  • Printer, media kit, USB 2.0 A to B cable and a Windows or macOS computer.
  • No ethernet and no card reader: the photo always arrives from the computer.
  • Media is per model: RX1HS, DS620 and QW410 do not share a kit.
  • Keep the original box, it is the printer's travel case.
  • The same list works as a photo booth set up with printer of any make.

Installing the DNP Printer Drivers on Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS

The DNP printer drivers come on the disc in the box and, more usefully, from the maker's European site, dnpphoto.eu. Download the one for your model: the DNP printer driver Windows 11 package and the DNP printer driver Windows 10 package are the same family and install the same way, and the DNP printer RX1HS driver is a different download from the DS620 one.

The order matters, and getting it wrong is the most common install problem of all:

1. Install the driver first, with the printer switched off and unplugged from USB.
2. Plug the cable in and switch the printer on.
3. Wait for Windows to finish and check that it shows up under its own model name in Printers and Scanners.

If you did it the other way round and Windows invented a generic device, remove that device, uninstall the driver, reboot and start again.

The DNP printer settings live in the driver's printing preferences: size, glossy or matte finish, overcoat, sharpness and the two inch cut for strips. Booth software does not always pass all of them through, so set the defaults you want here as well.

There is no official DNP printer Linux driver. Some models run through the community Gutenprint project, but if the booth has to earn money on a Saturday, build it on Windows.

  • Driver first, then the cable, then power. In that order.
  • Windows 10 and Windows 11 use the same package per model.
  • Every model has its own driver: the RX1HS one will not run a DS620.
  • No official Linux driver: to work an event, Windows or macOS.

Hot Folder Print and the Rest of the DNP Printer Software

DNP printer software is not one program, it is three things people mix up.

Hot Folder Print. The official application that ships with the printer. Point the DNP printer hot folder at a folder and every photo the booth drops in it prints on its own. This is what a booth actually runs on, and it is why photo booth printing software and printer software are two different questions: your booth app builds the image, Hot Folder Print gets it out of the machine.

The DNP printer utility. A small tool that reads the copy counter and the firmware version of the unit. It is what tells you how much life is left in a second hand machine. The DNP printer info utility is model specific, so ask whoever sold you the printer for the DNP printer info download that matches yours instead of grabbing the first search result.

Firmware. A DNP printer firmware update is rare and is not something to do on a whim. If you do it, run the printer on mains, never from a laptop about to sleep, and never the night before an event. If it works, leave it alone.

There is also a DNP printer SDK for anyone who wants to drive the hardware from their own application, rather than a public DNP printer API. For a booth you do not need it: Hot Folder Print already covers the watched folder, the cut and the queue.

  • Hot Folder Print prints on its own whatever the booth leaves in the watched folder.
  • DNP print utility and DNP printer info tool: copy counter and firmware version.
  • A DNP printer update is worth doing only when it fixes something you actually suffer.
  • There is no DNP printer app for phones: photo booth printer software runs on the computer.

Loading the Media: DNP Printer Paper Change Without Errors

Paper and ribbon go in together. A DNP printer paper change takes two minutes once you have done it twice, and nearly every error straight afterwards comes from the same two mistakes: ribbon slack and a roll clicked in the wrong way round.

1. Switch the printer off. Open the paper compartment and the ribbon door.
2. Push the flanges onto the new roll until they click. They only fit one way, and forcing them is how flanges snap.
3. Fit the ribbon cassette and take up the slack by hand before closing. A loose ribbon is the number one cause of a wrinkle down the middle of the print.
4. Feed the leading edge of the paper under the roller until it stops.
5. Close everything and switch on. The printer will feed and cut two or three blank sheets. That is normal, it is finding the leading edge.

Some vocabulary, because the searches are all over the place. There is no DNP printer ink and no DNP printer cartridge in the inkjet sense. A dye sublimation machine uses a DNP printer ribbon, which is the film that carries the colour, and a DNP printer roll of paper, and the two are sold together as a DNP printer media kit. What some people call the DNP printer film is the ribbon. When someone asks for DNP printer ink and paper, that kit is the whole answer, and a DNP printer refill is simply a new kit. The DNP printer 4x6 paper everyone means is the same 10x15 cm roll.

  • Take up the ribbon slack by hand before closing the door.
  • Photo booth printer paper and ink are one purchase here: the media kit for your model.
  • A photo booth printer ribbon and a photo booth printer roll come in the same box.
  • Blank sheets after a reload are normal, not a fault.
  • Photo booth printer paper size: 10x15 cm sheets off a roll, cut down if you want strips.
  • Photo booth printer and paper go together the first time and the paper alone after that.
  • There is no photo booth printer ink: the colour comes off the ribbon.
  • DNP printer paper price per box and prints per kit are on each media page.

DNP Printer Not Working: The Seven Faults That Cover Almost Every Call

First of all: switch it off, wait ten seconds, switch it on. A dye sublimation printer that has been asked to do something impossible needs a cold start to forget it. If that does not fix it, work down this list.

DNP printer not turning on. Nine times out of ten it is the power supply, not the printer. It is an external block with two cables, mains to block and block to printer, and the second one works loose inside a flight case. Try another socket and reseat both ends before assuming the worst.

DNP printer not printing. The job leaves the computer, the printer hums, nothing comes out. Open the ribbon door: a spent or torn ribbon gives exactly this. Check too that the software is pointing at the printer and not at a PDF writer that Windows helpfully made the default.

DNP printer offline. That is a Windows state, not a fault. The queue has a stuck job at the head of it. Cancel the whole queue, clear the offline state and print a Windows test page. If the test page comes out, the problem was your booth software.

DNP printer not connecting. Usually the cable or the port. Change the USB cable, use a port on the back of the computer rather than a hub, and if you run two printers remember they identify themselves individually, so swapping them can leave Windows pointing at the one that is not there.

DNP printer ribbon out. The message that lies most often. Sometimes the ribbon really has run out. Sometimes the sensor cannot read it because the cassette is not seated, because there is slack or because there is dust on the window. Reseat, take up the slack, then believe the message. A DNP printer ribbon error is the same family of problem.

DNP printer paper error. Roll in the wrong way round, flanges not clicked home, or an offcut left behind by an earlier jam. Take the roll right out and look at the path, do not just close the door harder.

DNP printer all lights on. Every indicator lit at once is not a code you can read, it is the printer saying it cannot reach a known state. Power off, open both doors, take out paper and ribbon, close, power on empty, then reload. If it still lights everything up with nothing loaded, it is a service job.

On DNP printer error codes: the light patterns mean different things by model and we are not going to publish a table that sends you down the wrong path for your unit. The combination for your model is in its manual, and if you bought the printer from us, send us a photo of the front panel on WhatsApp and we will tell you what it is.

  • Off, ten seconds, on. It solves more than people expect.
  • Not turning on: nearly always the external power block or its cable.
  • Offline is a Windows state, not a printer fault.
  • The ribbon out warning lies whenever the cassette is not seated properly.

DNP Printer Paper Jam: Clearing It and Stopping It Coming Back

A DNP printer paper jam is almost always mechanical and almost always avoidable.

To clear it: power off, open the paper side, pull the roll out with the flanges still on and look at the leading edge. If it is creased, cut the damaged part off square, right across, never at an angle. A diagonal edge will jam again on the next load. Check the cutter area for an offcut still sitting in there, which is the usual reason a DNP photo printer paper jam repeats twice in a row.

If the DNP printer keeps jamming, the cause is one of four:

  • The printer is not level, or it sits on carpet or foam that blocks the underside.
  • There is no room behind it. The paper travels backwards and forwards while it prints, so a unit pushed against the back panel of a booth will jam.
  • The roll has been handled by the paper rather than by the flanges and has a soft dent in it.
  • Third party media. Copy paper is the cheapest way to buy yourself a DNP printer jam.

Give it a hand's width of clearance behind and a flat rigid surface, and jams mostly stop happening.

  • Cut the damaged edge square, never on the diagonal.
  • Always check the cutter area: that is where the offcut that repeats the jam hides.
  • A hand's width of air behind the printer, because the paper moves both ways.
  • Non original paper: jams, wrinkles and no warranty.

2x6 Strips: When the DNP Printer Is Not Cutting

Strips are the classic booth print and they are not a different paper. The printer prints a 10x15 cm sheet with two strips on it and cuts it in half. If yours will not cut them, nothing is broken: the cut is an option and something has to switch it on.

  • In the driver's preferences, set the two inch cut option for the size you are using.
  • In Hot Folder Print or in your booth software, select that same size. If the two disagree, in some paths the driver wins and in others the application does, which is why a DNP printer not cutting 2x6 nearly always turns out to be two settings that do not match.
  • Send the image at the right aspect. A strip is 5x15 cm, and a 10x15 layout sent to a strip cut comes out with the heads chopped off.

The DS620 is the model to pick if strips are your main product: it does 10x15, 15x15 and strips, and its rewind saves media when you mix formats in the same box. The DS-RX1HS cuts strips too and is the cheaper way in, but the best 2x6 photo booth printer of the three is the DS620.

So when someone looks for a photo booth printer that cuts 2x6, a photo booth printer with cutter or a photo booth printer that prints strips, this is the machine they are looking for, with the option switched on. There is no separate cutter to buy.

  • Photo booth printer strips measure 5x15 cm, two to a sheet.
  • The sheet is always 10x15 cm: what changes is the cut, not the paper.
  • The cut is set in the driver and in the software, and both have to agree.

The Print Out: Size, Frame and Templates

The photo booth print out is the only thing a guest takes home, and it is the part people spend the least time on. The photo booth print out machine is the booth itself: the printer only obeys.

Size. 10x15 cm for the whole sheet, 5x15 cm per strip. Photo booth print out size is decided by the cut option, not by buying a different paper.

The frame. The border, the logo, the date and the names are laid out in the booth software and sent to the printer as a single image. That is where photo booth print out design happens.

Templates. Every booth application ships with photo booth print templates meant to be edited. Change the colours to the ones the couple chose, put the date on, and leave white space if guests are going to write on it. We go through it in customising photo booth templates.

What works. For wedding photo booth print design, three or four shots in a vertical strip with a clean footer beats a busy background every time. Dark images look worse on paper than on screen, so lift the exposure slightly. And a card photo booth print out frame with the venue name on it costs cents and is what makes a photo booth wedding print out survive the taxi home.

  • Photo booth print size: 10x15 cm whole, 5x15 cm per strip.
  • Photo booth print design and the photo booth print frame live in the software, not the printer.
  • Photo booth print out templates ship with every booth app and are meant to be edited.
  • Photo booth print ideas that work: vertical strip, clean footer, a touch more exposure.
  • Photo booth print design ideas: match the invitation, not the software default.
  • Photo booth print dimensions, photo booth print measurements and print out size are one question: the cut.

Lines, Wrong Colour and DNP Printer Head Cleaning

Colour complaints are two very different problems and the fix depends on which one you have.

A defect that repeats in the same place. A straight line down every print, always in the same position, is dust or a burnt element on the thermal head. Dust you can fix: switch off, unplug, let it cool, and do the DNP printer head cleaning with a lint free cloth barely damp with isopropyl alcohol, wiping along the head and never across it. No fingernails, no kitchen roll, no household cleaner. A burnt element you cannot fix, and that is a service job.

A cast on every print. Prints too warm, too magenta or too dark across the whole sheet is not the DNP printer head, it is colour management: a filter the booth software is applying, a profile set twice, or an image in a colour space the driver does not expect. Print a Windows test page or a reference image you know first. If the reference is right and your booth output is wrong, the printer is fine.

And one more, because it gets mistaken for a colour fault: a wrinkle or a band across the print is nearly always ribbon slack, which is a loading problem and not a printing one.

A DNP printer repair on the head, the cutter or the board goes through the official service channel. We do not sell loose DNP printer parts: there is no sensible way for a customer to fit a DNP printer motherboard or a thermal head, and a printer opened at home loses its warranty on the spot.

  • A line always in the same place: dust or a burnt element on the head.
  • A cast across the whole print: colour management in the software, not the printer.
  • Clean with isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth, cold, wiping along the head.
  • A wrinkle or a band across the sheet: ribbon slack when it was loaded.

Printing From an iPad, and Why There Is No DNP Printer WiFi

This is the question we get most from people building their own booth, so the honest answer first: there is no DNP printer WiFi, no DNP printer Bluetooth and no DNP printer AirPrint. There is no DNP printer with AirPrint hiding in another model either. These are USB printers. A DNP printer wireless adapter that turns one into a network printer is not a product the maker sells.

That does not mean an iPad is impossible, it means something has to sit in between. A DNP printer for iPad build is always one of these three:

A computer acting as print server. The printer stays on USB to a small Windows machine, the iPad sends the photo to a watched folder on it and Hot Folder Print does the rest. That is what a photo booth printer server is, and it is what most iPad booths actually run.

A third party wireless print server. A box that takes the USB printer and puts it on the network. Some work, some do not, and none of them are supported by the maker or by us. There is no photo booth print server download that turns a USB printer into a network one on its own.

Booth software that includes it. Several iPad booth apps pair with a computer themselves. If yours does, follow its instructions instead of fighting the driver.

So when the search is photo booth printer for iPad, photo booth printer wireless or photo booth printer for iPhone, what is really being bought is the printer plus a computer. Put the computer in the budget. If you would rather not build any of this, our booths arrive with the whole chain already working, and we compare the do it yourself route without varnish in homemade photo booth.

  • No WiFi, no Bluetooth, no AirPrint: these are USB printers.
  • DNP printer iPad, iPhone or Android: the file always passes through a computer.
  • The print server can be a mini PC running Hot Folder Print.
  • There is no photo booth printer app that prints straight to a DNP.
  • Same answer for a photo booth printer with airprint, a photo booth printer bluetooth or a photo booth printer ipad: a computer in between.
  • There is no photo booth printer for phone that skips that computer either.
  • The best photo booth printer for iPad is the same as for anything else: QW410 if you carry it, DS-RX1HS if you do not.

Where the Printer Goes: Stand, Tray, Case and Transport

We do not sell a DNP printer stand, a DNP printer table or a flight case, so this is advice and not a sales pitch.

Air behind it. The paper moves in and out while it prints, so it needs free space at the back. A hand's width is enough. A DNP printer holder built flush against a back panel is the most repeated home made mistake.

Height and surface. Flat, rigid and level. Not carpet, not foam, not a folding table that flexes when somebody leans on it.

The tray. The DNP printer tray in the box is the photo booth print catcher. It works, but it also throws prints on the floor if the booth gets bumped, so plenty of operators take it off and let prints drop into a lined drawer instead.

Transport. The original DNP printer box is the best case you will ever get for free, and the foam inside it was cut for this machine. If you travel every weekend a DNP printer flight case with cut foam is worth the money, and for the QW410 a padded DNP printer bag is enough. Before any DNP printer transport, take the media out: a half used roll rattling around inside is what creases the leading edge.

Dust. A DNP printer cover while it is stored matters more than people think. Dust on the head is the line down the middle of your prints two months later. The only DNP printer accessories that really matter are the media kit and a clean, solid surface.

DNP printer dimensions by model, and the DNP printer weight that decides whether you carry it in one hand: DS-RX1HS 290 x 306 x 170 mm and about 12.5 kg, DS620 275 x 366 x 170 mm and 12 kg, QW410 208 x 240 x 198 mm and 6 kg. Check the DNP printer size against your cabinet before you build it, not after.

The same goes for a photo booth printer stand, a photo booth printer table or a photo booth printer holder: what matters is clearance, not furniture. A DIY photo booth printer stand is fine as long as it leaves that gap. We get asked for a photo booth printer stand for sale and we do not stock one.

  • A hand's width of air behind it, always.
  • Flat rigid surface, never carpet or foam.
  • Take the media out before transporting it.
  • A photo booth printer cover and the original box keep dust off between events.
  • A photo booth printer tray, a photo booth printer case or a photo booth printer box: useful, but none of them replace clearance.
  • A photo booth printer and stand, a photo booth printer stand cover or a photo booth printer shell are nice to have, not a fix for a tight cabinet.
  • Check the photo booth printer size against the cabinet before you cut any wood.

DNP Printer Models: Which One You Have and Which One to Buy

The DNP printer models in circulation for booths are basically four.

DNP printer DS-RX1HS. The workhorse. Around 290 prints of 10x15 an hour, glossy and matte without changing paper, 960 € with us. Written everywhere as DNP printer RX1HS, DNP printer DS-RX1 HS or just DNP printer RX1.

DNP printer DS620. Faster at 8.4 seconds a print, does 15x15 and strips with rewind, 1,399 €. The maker publishes it as DP-DS620 in Europe and as DNP printer DS620A in America. Same machine.

DNP QW410. 6 kg, 849 €, the one you carry. 18.8 seconds a print.

DNP printer DS40. The classic, discontinued years ago. Its media is not compatible with the RX1HS, which catches out anyone buying cheap old stock.

What DNP printer should I buy is settled by two questions. Are strips your main product? DS620. Do you carry the booth up stairs every weekend? QW410. Otherwise the best DNP printer for photo booth work is the DS-RX1HS, and it is not close: it is the balance of speed, cost per print and price. The full comparison is in which DNP printer to buy.

Some housekeeping on the name, because the searches show real confusion. DNP printer full form is Dai Nippon Printing, the Japanese company founded in 1876 that makes them, which is why DNP Japanese printer and DNP printing Japan keep showing up in results. There is no DNP laser printer and no DNP label printer in this catalogue: these are dye sublimation photo printers, a DNP event printer and a DNP lab printer at the same time, and nothing to do with office hardware. The DNP printer type is thermal dye sublimation, and the maker's European site is dnpphoto.eu. There is no DNP printer A4 and no DNP printer A3 in the range either: the biggest sheet is 15x20 cm on the DS-RX1HS and 20x30 cm on the DS820.

Looking for a DNP printer alternative? We compare them head on: DNP vs Citizen, DNP vs HiTi, DNP vs Mitsubishi and DNP vs Sinfonia.

  • DS-RX1HS 960 €: the best selling DNP printer for photo booth work, glossy and matte from one roll.
  • DS620 1,399 €: strips with rewind and 15x15, for volume.
  • QW410 849 €: 6 kg, for a portable booth.
  • DS40: discontinued, and its media will not run in an RX1HS.
  • Every DNP printer photo booth build in Europe runs one of these three models.

Buying a Photo Booth With Printer Included

Half the people who land here looking for printers actually want the whole machine, so here is the short version of how we sell it.

Our published price is the booth. The photo booth camera and printer are optional and quoted separately, because between them they add a good part of the cost of a small booth and not everybody needs both (camera and printer sold separately, subject to conditions*). So a photo booth with printer to buy from us is the booth plus the printer on the same quote, with the detail in plain sight, not a bundle price hiding what is inside it. Photo booth and printer are two lines because they are two purchases, and people who buy photo booth and printer separately six months apart pay the same.

What that buys you once it is set up:

  • The guest touches the screen, the camera fires and the print is in their hand in seconds. That is what a photo booth machine that prints means in practice, and photo booth instant print is the part people remember about the night.
  • The vending models charge per photo and work with nobody attending them, which is the business photo booth with printer case: a bar, a shopping centre, a hotel lobby.
  • The 360 platform records video, so a printer there is optional in a way it is not on a classic booth.

If you are pricing a used photo booth with printer for sale, read our page on second hand booths first, and above all the part about the print counter: a printer with 60,000 prints on the head has most of its life behind it, and the counter cannot be reset.

We sell rather than rent, so a photo booth rental with prints is something to book with a local supplier. The full range is at buy a photo booth, and if you want the quote with the printer in it, ask us and we will put it together.

  • The published price is the booth: camera and printer sold separately, subject to conditions*.
  • Buy a photo booth with printer as one quote, with each line visible.
  • Vending models charge per photo and run with no staff.
  • Second hand: check the printer's copy counter before anything else.

Which of Our Booths Take a Photo Booth Camera and Printer

Not every machine is built around a print, and photo booth equipment with printer covers very different cabinets. Here is where each family stands, and in all of them the camera and the printer are quoted on top of the booth (camera and printer sold separately, subject to conditions*).

Magic mirror. The classic full size install: a magic mirror photo booth with camera and printer keeps the Canon body and the DNP behind the glass, out of sight.

Vintage premium and neon vintage. A vintage photo booth with printer, wooden cabinet, with the QW410 or the DS-RX1HS living inside it.

Miniglam. The small mirror, the one that travels. The obvious photo booth camera with printer for anyone who works alone and loads the van themselves.

Vending vintage and vending metal. These charge per photo, so the print is the product. This is the professional photo booth machine with printer that stays in a venue and works unattended.

360 platform and overhead 360. Video, not prints. A printer is an add on here rather than the point of the machine.

Instant print. A photo booth instant print machine is this chain running fast enough that nobody waits: capture, template, print. A photo booth machine with instant printer is the same thing with the printer inside the cabinet instead of on a table beside it, and the photo booth instant printer is the DNP. Photo booth instant print price depends on the booth it goes into, while the print itself costs between 0.12 € and 0.22 € in media. Photo booth digital print, meaning a copy sent by QR instead of on paper, is a setting rather than a different machine.

So if you want to buy photo booth camera and printer together, or simply to buy a photo booth that prints photos and be done with it, ask for the quote with all three lines on it. A photo booth camera and printer price only means something next to the booth it goes into, and any photo booth camera and printer for sale as a sealed bundle is hiding which camera is in it.

  • A photo booth camera that prints is not one device: camera, printer and software.
  • Mirror, vintage and vending cabinets are the ones built around the print.
  • For a photo booth with printer for wedding work, the mirror and the vintage are what get booked.
  • The business photo booth machine with printer is the vending one: it charges per photo.
  • The best photo booth camera and printer pairing we ship is a Canon EOS 2000D with a DS-RX1HS.
  • Photo booth printer and camera, or photo booth machine and printer: two lines, one quote.
  • A photo booth machine with printer for sale here is new and built to order, not ex rental stock.

DNP Printer Support, Warranty and Where to Buy

DNP printer support in Spain does not come from the manufacturer. Dai Nippon sells through distributors, so there is no DNP printer customer care number for end users to ring, and the DNP printer service center you need is whoever invoiced you. That is worth knowing before buying from a marketplace seller in another country.

What we do for printers bought here: DNP printer help over WhatsApp, from people who use the same machines at events. DNP printer tech support for units bought here is us, not a call centre. Send a photo of the panel and of the print. Most of what gets called a DNP printer repair turns out to be a badly seated ribbon and takes four minutes instead of a courier.

DNP printer warranty on the DS-RX1HS is one year or 30,000 prints of 10x15, whichever comes first. It covers manufacturing defects, not a head killed by dust or by copy media.

Prices with VAT are on each page: DS-RX1HS 960 €, QW410 849 € and DS620 1,399 €. Looking for a DNP printer nearby is a dead end outside the big cities, because there is no DNP printer shop on the high street: this is a trade item sold by distributors.

Two things we do not do. We do not rent, so a DNP printer rental or a DNP printer hire is a different business and you will find it with event suppliers. And we hold no used units, so a used DNP printer for sale is something to buy with the counter checked first and never on the photo in the advert.

  • DNP printer where to buy: factory direct from us, shipping to 72 countries.
  • Printer plus first media kit as one DNP printer bundle on the same quote if you ask.
  • DNP printer for sale here means new, boxed and with the European warranty.
  • DNP printer customer service for units bought from us: WhatsApp, for life.
  • DNP printer for rent, DNP printer on rent or DNP printer hire: not us, we sell.
  • DNP photo printer price with VAT on every model page, no quote needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is My DNP Printer Not Working an Hour Before the Event?

In order of likelihood: the power cable has worked loose in transit, the ribbon has shifted inside its cassette, there is a stuck job in the Windows queue, or the USB cable has taken a beating. Switch off, wait ten seconds, switch on, cancel the whole queue and take the media out and back in. That covers most of the emergency calls we get.

What Does DNP Printer Ribbon Out Mean if the Ribbon Is Full?

That the sensor cannot read it. Nearly always the cassette is not seated, the film has slack, or there is dust on the sensor window. Switch off, take the cassette out, take up the slack by turning the take up spool by hand, click it back in and switch on. If it still warns with fresh media correctly loaded, it is the sensor and that is a service job.

How Do I Do a DNP Printer Head Cleaning?

With the printer off, unplugged and cold. A lint free cloth or a swab barely damp with isopropyl alcohol, wiping along the head and never side to side. No fingernails, no kitchen roll, no household cleaners. If the line still appears in the same position after cleaning, the element is burnt and cleaning will not bring it back.

Which DNP Printer Driver Do I Need for Windows 11?

The driver for your exact model, downloaded from the maker's site. The Windows 10 and Windows 11 packages are the same family and install the same way. The DS-RX1HS driver will not run a DS620 or the other way round. Install the driver first with the printer disconnected, and only then plug in the USB and switch on.

Can I Use a DNP Printer With an iPad?

Yes, but with a computer in between. These are USB printers with no WiFi and no AirPrint, so the iPad sends the photo to a folder on a computer that is cabled to the printer, and Hot Folder Print prints it. Some iPad booth apps have that pairing built in. If you are building a tablet booth, budget for the computer too.

What Is the DNP Printer Full Form?

Dai Nippon Printing. The DNP printer manufacturer is a Japanese company founded in 1876 with its head office in Tokyo, so every DNP printer origin question ends in Japan. The DNP printer company makes far more than photo printers, but the ones in this catalogue are thermal dye sublimation photo printers.

What Is the DNP Printer Official Website?

The European division publishes drivers, manuals and the model list at dnpphoto.eu. That DNP printer website is where to find the DNP printer manual for your exact unit, which is what you need to read the front panel lights. We sell the printers and give the support, but the source documentation lives there.

Is a Second Hand DNP Printer Worth It?

Only with the counter checked. The thermal head has a limited life and the counter cannot be reset, so a DNP RX1HS printer used for two seasons or a DNP DS620A printer used in a rental fleet can carry tens of thousands of prints. If the saving is 300 or 400 €, you lose it on the first head you have to replace. Always ask for a screenshot of the utility showing the count before you buy a DNP printer used. The same goes for any DNP printer second hand deal on a marketplace.

How Much Does a DNP Printer Cost?

With us, 960 € for the DS-RX1HS, 849 € for the QW410 and 1,399 € for the DS620, VAT included and factory direct. The printer price is the easy part: the number that decides your margin is the cost per print, because media is bought again after every event.

What Does Each Print Cost in Media?

With the DS-RX1HS, about 0.12 € a print: the 1,400 print kit costs 170 €. With the DS620, the 800 print box costs 109 €, around 0.14 € a print. With the QW410, the 300 print box costs 65.22 €, about 0.22 €. Those are VAT included prices for original media.

Can I Use Non Original Paper?

You can, and it is the worst economy in the trade. Copy media jams more, wrinkles the ribbon, dirties the head early and voids the warranty. The saving is cents a print and the head is a serious part of the price of the printer.

Why Do Blank Sheets Come Out After a Paper Change?

Because the printer is locating the leading edge of the new roll. It feeds and cuts two or three sheets and then prints normally. It is expected behaviour on all three models, not a fault.

How Many Prints Does the Head Last?

The DS-RX1HS warranty covers one year or 30,000 prints of 10x15, whichever comes first, which gives you the order of magnitude for normal use. Real life depends on dust, on media and on whether the printer breathes inside the cabinet or is boxed in. With original media and a clean head they run well past that figure.

What Is the DNP Printer Wattage?

The peak draw happens while the thermal head heats, not at idle, and that peak is the number to respect: give it its own socket and never share a strip with a smoke machine or a big light. The exact DNP printer watts figure for your model is on the label on the back of the unit and in its manual, so check there before sizing a generator.

Can I Connect Two DNP Printers to One Computer?

Yes. The event models identify themselves individually over USB, so the system does not confuse them and you can split the queue between the two. It is normal practice in high volume installations. Use ports on the back of the computer and avoid unpowered hubs.

What Is the Photo Booth Print Size?

The sheet is always 10x15 cm. Hand it over whole and that is what the guest takes home. Cut it into strips and each one is 5x15 cm, two to a sheet. The DS620 also does 15x15 cm, and the DS-RX1HS reaches 15x20 with its specific roll.

Do You Sell a Photo Booth Printer Stand or Case?

No. We sell the printers, the media and complete photo booths, but not furniture, trays or transport cases. If you are building it yourself, the only things that really matter are a hand's width of clearance behind, a flat rigid surface and somewhere for the heat to go.

What Is the Best Photo Booth Printer?

The DS-RX1HS for most people: 960 €, around 290 prints an hour and 0.12 € a print. The QW410 if you carry it yourself to every event. The DS620 if you live off strips or work high volume weddings. The cheapest photo booth printer is not the one with the lowest sticker price, it is the one with the lowest cost per print, and that is the RX1HS. Any DNP printer review worth reading measures that number and not the sticker price. A good photo booth printer is one you can feed cheaply, so the best budget photo booth printer is the QW410 on purchase price and the DS-RX1HS on running cost. People also ask about a photo booth printer Canon, a photo booth printer Epson or a photo booth printer HiTi: HiTi we compare head on in DNP vs HiTi, and the families built for event speed and the 2x6 cut are DNP, HiTi, Citizen, Mitsubishi and Sinfonia.

How Much Is a Photo Booth Printer?

Between 849 € and 1,399 € for the three models we stock, VAT included. Add the media kit, which is what you buy again and again: 65.22 € for 300 prints on the QW410, 109 € for 800 on the DS620 and 170 € for 1,400 on the DS-RX1HS. Photo booth printing cost is really that second number.

Is There a Portable Photo Booth Printer?

The best portable photo booth printer of the three is the QW410: 6 kg, 208 x 240 x 198 mm and able to run off an external battery, so it fits in a backpack and works with no socket nearby. In exchange it takes 18.8 seconds a print, around 190 an hour, and its box yields 300 prints. For a 200 guest wedding with a print for everyone it is tight. If you need a photo booth printer small enough to carry and a photo booth printer portable enough to run off a battery, that is the one.

Can I Print Photo Booth Strips at Home?

With one of these printers, yes: it is exactly the same machine with the cut option enabled in the driver. What does not work is trying it with a domestic inkjet, because it neither cuts nor keeps the pace nor hands over a dry print. If you want to know how to make your own photo booth with prints, or you are pricing a DIY photo booth camera and printer, we compare that route with what it really costs in homemade photo booth. A photo booth printer at home is the easy part: a photo booth printer diy cabinet around it is where people underestimate the work.

Where Do the Photo Booth Print Templates Come From?

From the booth software: the frame, the logo and the text are built there and the printer only outputs what it is sent. The photo booth print design is the part guests notice most at a wedding, more than which printer you used. We go into it in customising photo booth templates.

Can You Make Photo Booth Magnets?

Not from the printer. Magnets are made by applying self adhesive magnetic backing or a magnetic sleeve to a normal 10x15 print or to a strip. A photo booth print magnet is an accessory, not an output mode, so there is no photo booth magnet printer as such: what exists is the accessory that goes on the back, bought separately.

What Do Guests Take the Print Away In?

In their hand, nine times out of ten. If you want to look after the detail, the usual options are a card photo booth print holder with the couple's names, a photo booth print album or guest book where a print is glued in and guests write next to it, or a visible catcher tray so nobody stands waiting at the machine.

Do You Print Backdrops?

No. Photo booth backdrop printing is a different trade: a dye sublimation printer makes 10x15 cm prints, not two metres of fabric. If what you need is the background for the event, we cover it in photo backdrop, and we say there too that we do not sell them.

Do You Rent Printers?

No. We sell printers, media and photo booths, shipping to 72 countries. Renting loose equipment is handled by local event suppliers. If what you need is a booth for one date in Spain, look at our photo booth rental.

Where Do You Buy a Photo Booth Printer?

From a distributor of the brand, not from a high street shop. A photo booth printer nearby is rare outside the big cities, so buying a photo booth printer online is normal in this trade: we ship the three DNP models to 72 countries. A photo booth printer for sale that is new, boxed and under European warranty is worth more than a photo booth printer used with an unknown counter. Photo booth printer cost runs from 849 € to 1,399 € with VAT.

Can a Photo Booth Printer Be Repaired?

Yes, through the brand's official service channel, and it is worth doing on a head with years left in it. Most of what gets called a photo booth printer repair is a badly seated ribbon or a jam. A photo booth printer for events lives a harder life than an office machine, with dust, vans and damp marquees, so the failures tend to be mechanical rather than electronic. A photo booth printer for parties and a photo booth printer wedding setup are the same machine: what changes is how many prints a night.

Do You Do Photo Booth Rental With Prints?

In Spain we rent booths, and you can see that at photo booth rental. Outside Spain we sell rather than rent, so a photo booth rental with printer, a photo booth rental with prints, a photo booth rental with print out or a photo booth rental that prints photos is something to book locally. The same goes for a photo booth printer rental, a photo booth printer for rent or a photo booth print hire on its own. When an operator advertises photo booth rental unlimited prints, what they mean is that the media is included in the fee, and that media is the same kit we sell them.

Is a Photo Booth Printer the Same as a Photo Kiosk Printer?

Yes, it is the same machine. A 300 dpi thermal dye sublimation unit hands over a dry finished print in seconds, which is why a photo booth, a photo kiosk print station, a photo shop, a lab and an event photographer all use it. A photo booth thermal printer, a photo booth type printer and a photo kiosk printer are the same hardware with different software in front of it, and any photo printer like photo booth output you have seen was one of these. A photo booth receipt printer, the small thermal roll that spits out a QR code, is a different device and not something we fit.
